Some of the contact lens options that Dr. Porter may discuss with you are:
Soft Contact Lenses
Soft contacts are thinner and can be prescribed to be replaced daily, weekly, or monthly. You can also try colored soft contact lenses in blue, green, amethyst, honey and many other exciting colors. Call for details or to set up an appointment to try some on.Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) Lenses
RGP lenses are the gold standard of contact lenses. They are semi-hard, extremely oxygen permeable, and provide superior optics. They are especially good at correcting astigmatism. RGP lenses are also used in treating keratoconus.Lenses for Astigmatism
Toric lenses are available in either RGP or soft contact lenses. Both materials are better than ever at correcting astigmatism but RGP lenses are usually superior in their optics.Bifocal Lenses for Presbyopia
Bifocal contacts are also available in both RGP and soft designs and can work very well. Depending on your needs, Dr. Porter will discuss all of your options with you including monovision. Monovision is simply a way to prescribe your contact lenses so that one eye will see clearly for distance viewing, and the other eye will see clearly for near vision such as reading. Both of these options (bifocal contacts or monovision) offer new and exciting opportunities for our patients over 40.
